Who is Robyn?

Robyn Schneider wrote her first novel at age 13.  At 19, she had four books
under contract with major New York publishing houses.  Her debut young
adult novel, Better Than Yesterday, was hailed as “Distinctive and
amusing…an escape novel with a message” by Kliatt and has been lauded
as a more literary and serious alternative to the popular “Gossip Girl” series
by both Booklist and School Library Journal.  Now 21, Robyn is celebrating
the release of her first nonfiction book, The Social Climber’s Guide To High
School.  In addition to being a writer, Robyn has also done freelance editing
work, interned at a literary agency, and taught a creative writing class for
teens.  An accomplished and award-winning public speaker, not to mention
former off-Broadway comedienne, Robyn is a pre-med and English major at
Barnard College of Columbia University.

What kinds of events does Robyn do?

Robyn is willing to do just about any kind of event, from a simple reading
and book signing to a panel discussion or seminar.  She can tailor an event
specifically to meet your needs, but here are some of her standards:

Seminar On Being Published As A Teenager:
With her trademark sense of humor, Robyn candidly explains what it is like
to be a full-time writer and work with an agent, editor and publicist including
an explanation of how a manuscript becomes a printed book.  Robyn tells
the sometimes hilarious story of her own journey toward publication and
gives advice for teens hoping to break into the publishing world.  From
figuring out how to write a novel that will grab an agent’s attention to
knowing when your big break is really a scam, Robyn advises teens on how
to write, pitch and sell their debut book.  Afterward, Robyn will answer
questions and can read from and/or sign copies of her books if desired.

Seminar on Popularity and Social Issues:
The Social Climber’s Guide To High School is a handbook for teen girls that
encourages them to think for themselves and to respect their classmates.
Tackling issues from the book such as cliques, gossip, and dating, Robyn
reads humorous selections from the Guide and facilitates an engaging and
frank discussion on those topics among students.  Optional:  students can
write their own additions to the Guide or create illustrations, skits or
collages.

Teen Writing Workshop:
Robyn will explain a writing technique and provide examples from popular
fiction.  Students will use this technique in their own writing and then will
share their work in a group critique that Robyn facilitates.

Workshop topics include: Point of view and narrative fiction techniques that
students can use to enhance their short and long fiction, Personal essays
and narrative nonfiction techniques that students can put to use in their
blogs, and lyric and poetic techniques where students listen to a few
popular songs, learn about the composition of a song (intro verse, verse,
chorus) and write the hit single of a made-up band.

How can I book an event with Robyn?

Contact Robyn directly or her publicist Allison Hathaway for availability.
Right now Robyn has general availability throughout 2007 but keep in mind
that she is a college student with classes that she probably shouldn’t skip.

How far will Robyn travel?

Robyn will go wherever you would like.  She lives in New York City, but is
frequently in the Chicagoland and Southern California areas as well.  For
events more than a 1/2 hour away from wherever Robyn is, you will need to
cover travel expenses.  You can also split the travel cost by arranging with
another local venue to book an event with Robyn during the same trip.

How much does it cost to book an event with Robyn?

It depends on what you’d like, what it is for and how long it will take.
Sometimes a small honorarium, other times a few hundred dollars.  We’re
sure that we can work something out.
